About R.B. Bagley
San Saba, Texas is the birthplace of the “paper shell” pecan. In the 1880’s, in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, Mr. Risien bred our native pecans into a very desirable nut, shipping the nuts and small pecan trees to every continent on Earth making San Saba “The Pecan Capital of the World”!
Our founder, R.B. Bagley, was key to that claim. R.B. saw promise in pecans and, in 1918, leaving home at the age of 19, he began his lifelong career in the pecan industry. From thrashing to growing them to buying and shipping pecans, by the late 1950’s, R.B. Bagley & Sons had become the largest pecan buyer in the US.
We, the descendants of R.B. Bagley, are proud to continue his family business traditions and are celebrating 101 years in the Texas pecan industry!

With its art galleries, exciting nightlife, and top-notch restaurants, Southtown already offers plenty of perks. Now, the hip neighborhood is set to add one more with the opening of a second location of popular coffeeshop Shotgun House Roasters at 1010 S. Flores St. Ste. 116.
Due to a few outstanding permits, co-owner Eddie Laughlin doesn’t want to commit to a hard date just yet, but he does say he should be able to light up the open sign in about a week.
"The idea was always to open a second location," says Laughlin, adding that the original cafe at 1333 Buena Vista St. was designed to be a little out of the way and house the roasting operations. When he and co-owner Jessica Callery stumbled on the former location of Whip Stitch Custom Cakes in Southtown, they jumped at the opportunity to be in a high-traffic, walkable area.
Laughlin says Shotgun will offer the same coffee menu as the original outpost. Drip coffee and cold brews are supplemented with an array of espresso drinks, teas and matcha from Chicago’s Spirit Tea Co., and chai.
The shop will also offer the original location's trio of signature drinks: an iced dirty horchata, a salted caramel latte made from treats from farmers market faves Wildflower Caramel Company, and a maple-sage latte. The latter, Laughlin says, came from his desire to have "some sort of piney, woody drink," for the holiday menu. The unconventional flavor profile became so popular that it stuck.
For now, Shotgun is working with local purveyors Cafe Don Juan, Dignowity Kolaches, Scratch Kitchen, and Chocollazo to provide savory and sweet snacks, but Laughlin tells CultureMap they will eventually make food in house, likely starting with baked goods. Although Laughlin admits that wine probably isn't right for the shop, Texas craft beer in cans is coming so the shop can take part in the neighborhood's Second Saturday Artwalk fun. (In fact, the monthly party is one of the reasons that made a Southtown location attractive.)
The menu may be the same, but the new shop has a very different feel from the original's industrial digs. Designer Victor Montez was brought in to create three different environments including a light-filled ordering area, a second room with a long community table and a record player, and a cozy back lounge painted forest green.
Once permitting allows, Shotgun House will be open seven days a week. Hours will be 7 am to 7 pm Monday through Friday and 7 am to 8 pm Saturday and Sunday.
Southtown’s coffee options continue to expand with the announcement that the popular warehouse coffee shop Shotgun Coffee Roasters will open its first satellite location in the next 10 days.
The opening date’s not set in stone yet, said co-owner Eddie Laughlin, but the signage is up at 1010 S. Flores St., Suite 116. Once it opens, the shop’s hours will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Details at shotgunhouseroasters.com.
The original Shotgun House Coffee Roasters opened in April 2018 on the West Side at 1333 Buena Vista St. inside Warehouse 5. The shop drew its name from the shotgun-style house shared by co-owners Laughlin and Jessica Callery. From that house, they turned a passion for coffee into a kind of bootleg roasting operation from their screened-in porch before going legit.
The Southtown shop will mirror the warehouse’s menu of espresso and pour-over coffee drinks, using ethically sourced beans roasted fresh at Warehouse 5, Laughlin said. Three specialty lattes will anchor the Southtown menu: iced horchata with espresso and housemade horchata; a maple sage latte with fresh sage and maple syrup; and a salted caramel latte using caramel syrup from the Pearl Farmers Market favorite Wildflower Caramels.
The food options also will track with the original shop, Laughlin said, with breakfast tacos from Cafe Don Juan, kolaches from Dignowity Kolaches, pastries from Scratch Kitchen and brownies and cookies by Chocollazo.
The Southtown shop’s decor will depart from the spare industrial look of the warehouse original with more light and a lounge atmosphere cultivated by local designer Victor Montez.
The new shop is less than a mile and a half from the original location, but there’s a method to Shotgun’s madness. The warehouse shop is more of a destination shop, Laughlin said, where people come to buy house-roasted beans and experience the sunny warehouse space. The Southtown shop at The 1010 apartments, on the other hand, will add a convenient coffee option for the neighborhood’s concentration of businesses and residential lofts, he said.

Shotgun House Coffee Roasters is opening a new location next week at 1010 S. Flores St., its second less than a year after it opened the original location on the West Side in April of last year.
Owner and founder Eddie Laughlin decided to open the SoFlo location because the prospering area lacks good coffee, he said. The second Shotgun House is moving into The 1010 apartments in the SoFlo corridor of Southtown and will join other businesses there such as restaurant Bamboo and record shop Southtown Vinyl.
“There just wasn’t a good walkable coffee shop for the Judson Lofts, the South End Lofts, and Steel (House Lofts) and The 1010 apartments that are going to be right above us,” Shotgun House owner and founder Eddie Laughlin said. “There’s just a ton of urban core community right there.”
Laughlin anticipates the customer flow at the new location to be much more stop-and-go as opposed to the West Side location, 1333 Buena Vista St., which he described as more of a “destination” despite both spots being similar in size.
Shotgun House’s new location was previously a bakery, which has helped for a quick turnaround in terms of renovations and prep to move in, as opposed to the original location, which was converted from warehouse space.

It's been less than a year since Shotgun House Coffee Roasters opened on San Antonio's West Side, but the company is preparing to lift the curtain on a second retail storefront — this time, in Southtown — within the next 10 days.
Shotgun House, co-owned by couple Jessica Callery and Eddie Laughlin, has become known for roasting its own coffee at Warehouse 5, hosting local events and providing an uniquely designed space with Insta-friendly coffee beverages and locally-sourced treats.
"We're excited," Laughlin said. "[The Southtown location] will be a more convenient coffee shop for [locals] that are walking around the area."
Located at the corner of the 1010 S. Flores apartment and retail development, next to Southtown records, the new storefront will offer a menu similar to its Westside coffee shop, including seasonal drinks, iced dirty horchata, a maple sage latte and a salted-caramel latte made with Wildflower Caramels.
The new, 1,300-square-foot space will reflect less of the industrial design found at Warehouse 5, but will feature similar furniture, distinctive lighting and installations designed by artist Victor Montez.
The shop entrance will feature a coffee bar with seating, while a walkthrough archway will lead to a second room featuring music from vinyl records and additional seating with four two-tops and a 10-foot table, designed by Montez. The Southtown storefront also will include a lounge area (and a stack of books from the couple's home) for customers to sit and study or relax.
Laughlin and the Southtown team plan to use the new kitchen to make their own croissants and macarons, and hope to eventually offer a larger food program. In the meantime, customers can expect to find local products at the shop, including cookies from Chocollazo, scones from Scratch Kitchen, Don Juan breakfast tacos and kolaches from Dignowity Kolaches.
